On a drug fueled rampage, LaFonda Foster and Tina Powell murdered 5 friends in a desperate search for more drugs. After kidnapping four friends in an attempt to cash in on one of the group's social security check, they added a fifth hostage. Powell stabbed the group while Foster shot them with an .22 caliber revolver. They ran over one of them men before shooting him to death. The last victim was burned alive in the car.

The two went a nearby hospital to clean themselves, still too high to realize their mistake. They were arrested shortly afterward.

In February 1987, a jury found both women guilty on five counts of first-degree murder. Lafonda Foster was sentenced to death and Tina Powell received a life sentence. In 1991, Foster's death sentence was reversed to life in prison.
