Tyshee Prokop was a black woman who killed her German-born white husband.

Gary Prokop was born in West Germany, but he immigrated to America, living in San Diego, California. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school. Stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, he met Tyshee Grant in Killeen in 1996 at a bar. They ended up marrying and had a daughter named Kilani.

But a family life was not what Tyshee wanted. She still slept with her high school sweetheart, Jacob Harris, and other friends and did drugs with them. She only lived with Gary because of the Army benefits.

18 months later, Gary decided to divorce her because of her immaturity and also planned on leaving the U.S. Army to go back to California. This would deny Tyshee his health benefits and a $200,000 life insurance policy. She convinced Jacob Harris and his two friends to kill him.

Charles "Chuckie" Turnbull would fatally shoot Gary while Rodney Barfield would be the getaway driver. Jacob Harris would give himself an alibi by being in Missouri.

On the morning of June 25, 1998, Tyshee let Turnbull into the house to kill her husband and went to the bathroom. Turnbull went into the bedroom and fatally shot Gary once in the head with an assault rifle. Playing the shocked bystander by saying she was in the bathroom when she heard a gunshot. She went to her neighbor and called the authorities.

Police suspected her from the beginning. Tyshee sounded like she was trying to force herself to cry but she wasn't crying at the scene. She also didn't bring their daughter out of the house. But there was no sufficient evidence and Tyshee remained free for three years.

Sergeant Patrick Turk received informant from a police rat that led to the getaway driver, Rodney Barfield. He easily gave up his accomplices during a five hour interrogation.

Tyshee Prokop accepted a guilty plea, but didn't admit her involvement in any other way. Turnbull was convicted of capital murder. Harris and Barfield were convicted of conspiracy to commit capital murder. In 2003, Tyshee was sentenced to life in prison, being eligible for parole in 2032.
